Mobile Broadband Cards

SECard If you decide to buy some mobile broadband cards for your netbook or laptop, there are many solutions to choose from. One of those things to take into consideration is the name of the carrier.

Once upon a time Sprint and Verizon were thought to be the best at offering this. They still are so we will try to narrow down the search pattern to just these ones. You should know that, as far as prices are concerned, they are basically the same. You get to pay about $59.99 a month.

But there are things that delimit this. For example, Sprint will give you 5GB limit for each individual and Verizon offers that for all customers. Sprint also gives you Unlimited service. If you are a casual user, Verizon is ok for you but Sprint is better if you are a heavy buyer. Also, the coverage issue comes into discussion. Many carriers advertize their coverage capabilities but just to be on the safe side, make sure you verify their coverage maps. Make sure they have plenty of Rev A coverage areas. This Rev A is the fastest service.

After picking the carrier you can decide on the type of card. If you want to use the card on your laptop then you must take the slot type into consideration.

1) PCMCIA / Type ll Card Slot.

This slot is pretty much like a Credit Card and it has been used for 5 years now. One disadvantage is the fact that this card will pretty much sit inside the laptop all the time. The thing is that you will install the card once and then leave it inside the laptop.

2) ExpressCard Slot.

This is a much newer kind of card slot and it measures half of what PCMCIA does. Many new laptops use it.

3) USB Card Slot.

The modern computers have this kind of card and it is very useful.
